Hokay, this was supposed to be a light hearted reflection on the non event which was the Y2K problem, but somewhere along the way it got a little bleak, probably influenced by the original lyrics <g>. Ummm.

To Del Amtri's "Nothing Ever Happens".

_Nothing Even Happened_

Pundits predicted that business would end up closed
data would vanish, and all of the records might go
planes wouldn't be safe to fly
and at every millennium bash
bystanders cheerfully knocked back a drink
as they waited for systems to crash

And they'll all be working tonight, but will they tomorrow?

We switched of our PCs, don't know if they'll work anymore,
Will traffic lights break down, will our cars all still go?
Would all of the banks be offline
Could we still depend on our wage?
While prophets predicted the end of the world
Or the dawning of some great new age.

But nothing really happened, nothing happened at all
The clocks rolled over to zero OK
And we all carry on like before
And they'll all be working tonight and working tomorrow

Computers still work, and everything seems to be fine
We can still log-on, make money and play games on-line.
The world didn't end, Christ didn't return
Ragnarok has not begun.
& the New World in which we all find ourselves living
looks very much like the old one.

But nothing really happened, nothing happened at all
The clocks rolled over to zero OK
And we all carry on like before
And we'll all be empty tonight, and empty tomorrow.

Pundits agree that the fireworks looked really neat
While millions of people are lost and alone, and children
still starve on the streets.
But all our computers still work
And we're still all getting our pay
And nothing unbalanced our neat little lives
So I guess everything is OK.

But nothing really happened, nothing happened at all
The clocks rolled over to zero OK
And we all carry on like before.
And nothing ever changes, nothing changes at all
But as long as it doesn't intrude on our lives
Then we'll all carry on like before.

And we'll all be lonely tonight, and lonely tomorrow.
